Despair Has Its Lighter Side

by KB Schmith

How can you not like a person’s whose Twitter bio reads “My job is to make you happy that I’m robbing you.”

That’s just how they roll at Despair, Inc, an online retailer whose tagline reads The Relentless Pursuit of Rejection.  Despair, Inc. launched its business in 1998 by reverse-engineering the now-cliche’d motivational posters that adorn far too many offices. Despair, Inc. first caught my eye with its satirical Demotivators® posters, so much so that we gave my college-aged stepson one featuring a witty (albeit juvenile) twist on Teamwork.

What a better time to add a little levity to your work environment? Seriously… remember that it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.

Here are a few of my favorites:

please-remain-calm-shirt

From the Despairwear collection.  I like this shirt so much that I’d buy it…if it weren’t for the fact that I have no office in which to wear it. Instead I think I’ll give one to each of my HR friends.

the pessimist's mug The Pessimist’s Mug, a perennial must-have for those morbid people you love, despite their crankiness.

Valentine's Day candy for the rest of us.

And just in time for Valentine’s Day, there’s Bittersweets®- The Valentine’s Candy for the Rest of Us.  The classic valentine candy has been updated and includes witticisms such as P.S. I LUV ME, DO MY DISHES, AWFUL INLAWS, and  MUTUAL DISGUST.
